Depends what’s on the TV
Well, it’s free to UK viewers. The silver screen classics are an interesting watchDifferent films are up there for different lengths of time, so need to keep an eye out.
All 4Free (With Ads)Variety, including some foreign films. Depends what’s on the TV.Generally more interesting and better quality choices than on BBC IPlayer. Also free.Regular ad breaks can take you out of the moment.
Netflix£5.99-£13.99Mostly US Dramas. Increasing number of foreign/art films hidden awayLarge collection of films. Netflix is also looking across the globe for originals. Originals can be good, such as Roma and Marriage Story. Lots of YA films and shows if you like that.Lots of the hidden gems need to be found in amongst the Netflix Original rubbish films.
Prime Video£7.99 (Inc. with Prime)Mostly English Dramas. Can be complimented with channels. Some hidden gems.Better for films than Netflix, although the TV series aren’t as good. There are some hidden gems and plenty of good films get released on here throughout the year. It’s Amazon isn’t it. Also, their Amazon Originals generally aren’t as good or as popular as some of the Netflix ones.
BFI Player£4.99Mostly independent films. Very good set of UK independent films. Foreign films and old films.Interesting films, including seasons and cult classics from across the world. Relatively cheap in comparison to some of the others. Some smaller releases end up straight on there and tend to be better. The website is awful to use, so I recommend paying for it as an add on if you have Amazon. Not many blockbusters.
MUBI£5.99-£9.99Mostly independent/foreign films. Very few mainstream picks. Not for the casual cinema goer.Best for weirder films and some MUBI releases go straight on there. They gain some good rights and the MUBI library is full of good films to watch. Also can get MUBI Go for £14.99 which gives you one free cinema ticket per week.Mostly arthouse, so the films aren’t blockbusters. They tend to be slower. Can only get MUBI Go using MUBI directly and not through Amazon.
NOW TV Sky Cinema£11.99Mostly English releases. Daily cinema premiers. Tends to be newer releases as opposed to classics.Best for recent releases. I got the trial to watch some releases I’d missed. Usually first place to see new films. The most expensive service and doesn’t have may foreign language films.
